Sångtext

We trusted wind, we trusted tide,

Old nets, old songs, the open wide.

They fed me bread, they shared their fire,

Called me son when nights grew dire.

Years at sea, my shoulders changed,

Salt made hard what pain had shaped.

I learned the knots, I learned the stare,

The kind that comes from not being spared.

When the sea went flat and stopped its breath,

Silence chose between life and debt.

Dead wind, dead calm,

Oars in water, skin to bone.

No sail will save us now,

Only backs and broken tones.

Dead wind, no sky to blame,

Hands decide what fate will claim.

When the sea won’t choose a side,

Men decide who gets to die.

The old men talked in lowered voice,

Coins in mind, not much of choice.

They looked at me, then looked away,

Like I’d already been traded that day.

First pull burned, second tore,

Blood met wood, then nothing more.

They didn’t shout, they didn’t strike,

Just watched me row — and learned my price.

I saw it then, clear and cold,

I wasn’t crew, I was something sold.

Dead wind, dead calm,

Sweat like chains upon my arms.

Each stroke wrote a longer road,

Toward a life under someone’s code.

Dead wind, no mercy left,

Just breath for sale and strength in debt.

That first oar cut into me,

Wasn’t the last — just the key.

Low chant, distant male voices, almost breath

Not words, just rhythm of labor

The sea stayed still, the men moved on,

What they planned had long begun.

Dead wind, hear me swear,

This body learned what men prepare.
