MIBL Radio vs AzuraCast
AzuraCast is free, open-source software you install on a server of your own: full control, a public API and no hosting fee beyond your server. MIBL is a hosted service: no server, no setup, a page built to be found by search engines, help getting into radio directories, and lyrics your listeners can read in 19 languages.
Side by side
| MIBL Radio | AzuraCast | |
|---|---|---|
| Free start | 30-day free station, no card. During the trial: 10 listeners, 96 kbps, and the station sleeps when nobody is listening. | Free and open-source software (AGPL-3.0). There is nothing to sign up for: you install it yourself. Its documentation says it is currently in beta and expects basic knowledge of the Linux shell. |
| Entry paid plan | MIBL VIP Bronze: A$7.99 a month (Australian dollars). | The software is free; you pay for the server you run it on. |
| Entry plan limits | MIBL VIP Bronze: 100 listeners, 1 GB, 128 kbps, on air 24/7. | Whatever your own server and bandwidth allow; one installation can host several stations. |
| Station page | Your own station page is included. It enters our sitemap for Google and Bing once it has a 12-word introduction or 10 songs. | Each station has a built-in public player page you can embed, and custom CSS and JavaScript for your own branding. |
| Radio directories | A readiness checklist, one-click listing in Radio Browser, and step-by-step guides for TuneIn, myTuner, radio.net and Streema. | Web hooks can connect to services such as TuneIn; it does not list your station in directories for you. |
| Lyrics for listeners | Lyrics are timed to the music automatically, and one button translates them into the site’s 19 languages (your plan sets how many songs a month). | Not mentioned in its documentation overview. |
| AI | An AI DJ on every plan: rotation, jingles and voice drops, around the clock. | Not mentioned in its documentation overview. |
| Live | Go live from the browser or from an encoder such as Mixxx, on every plan; listeners can leave short voice messages you approve for air. | Liquidsoap as the always-playing AutoDJ, scheduled playlists, DJ accounts, a browser-based Web DJ, remote relays and listener song requests. |
| Apps | An Android app on Google Play. No iOS app yet. | No listener app is described; its API lets you build your own players. |
| Music licensing | Not included. Play your own music, or hold the licences for what you play. | Not a licence: it can generate a SoundExchange-compatible report for US web radio royalties. |
